110

I just came back from an exhibition at Westminster University Gallery West. The show presents first pictures taken by Gavin Watson using a Hanimex 110 format camera. They have been enlarged to much higher size than one could expect. It was done to prove that current chase after quality and sharpness is not realy necessary in order to produce interesting photos. It also confirmed something that I always thought – on a photo the moment is the most important thing. If a photo is interesting nobody will care about technical quality. If a photo is not interesting – nobody will care about it at all.

It will last till 9th of May and visiting it may cure someone from a low megapixel complex.

How many photos?

Sometimes I hear a question about number of photos I provide in an album or on a disc. The answer is: As many as needed to tell the story. After all it is not about quantity but about quality. I believe it is better to see 100 interesting photos than 1000 ones that will put you to sleep.

My son said he wants to play a guitar so I had to get him one. Actually he only takes it out when girls come around to show off but it’s a good start. I had to get one for myself too so we could learn together. Maybe we’ll start doing weddings.

I think I know what sort of music he’s going to play based on his favourite song:

Professional?

Great example of a photographer’s incompetence. I cannot agree with the judge in his opinion abut equipment. You can be a professional photographer without having a high end camera. After all it is down to photographer and his ability to see things differently. For me good photos are the interesting ones – I mean pictures that bring back the moment captured on them. Professional photographer must know the equipment and do everything possible to capture the moment in best possible technical quality. The woman did not know what an f stop is and that is worrying. The question the judge asked were absolutely basic and any professional photographer should be able to answer them immediately. Thanks to digital revolution we have a lot of people claiming to be professional just because they think they have a good camera.
